Guideline for Poster Presentation

Poster sessions are a valuable method for authors to present papers and meet with interested attendees for in-depth technical discussions. Therefore, it is important that you display your results clearly to attract people who have an interest in your work and your paper.

Preparing your Poster Presentation before the Conference:

Your poster should cover the KEY POINTS of your work. The ideal poster is designed to (1) attract attention preferably in colors; (2) provide a brief overview of your work; and (3) initiate discussion and questions.

The poster should appear as:

  1. Title at the top centre of the page in CAPITAL letters size 25mm, with author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s).

  2. It should include a clear statement of the problem you are addressing, essential experimental details, key results, a simple summary and conclusions, with acknowledgement of your advisor and any other students who have helped you in an "acknowledgment" section at the end of your poster.

  3. Use color for highlighting and to make your poster more attractive. Think about what attracts you to posters and other visual displays. Use pictures, diagrams, cartoons, figures, etc., and text should be minimized.  Figures and tables should be large and clear.  The lettering should be large enough to be legible at 1.5-2 meter.

Make your poster as self-explanatory as possible. This will save you time to use for discussions and questions.

Display boards will be provided for all poster sessions. They will measure 1.2-m tall x 1.00 -m wide. The organizers will provide double-sided adhesive tape and/or pushpins needed for posting your material on the board.

Notes:

  • Carefully prepare your poster well in advance of the conference. There will be no time or materials available for last minute preparations at the conference. If you think you may need certain materials to repair the poster after traveling, bring them with you.

  • Posters will be judged based on technical content, use of scientific method, potential impact and practical application, novelty of approach, quality of the poster and the verbal presentation.  The use of expensive materials is discouraged.

Presenting your Poster at the Conference:

Your poster-board number will be assigned to you on site at the registration desk.  The poster area will be open for setup between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, February 3-4, 2008.

Prepare a short presentation (several minutes) that you can periodically give to those assembled around your poster.  Please also try to attend your poster during normal coffee breaks and during the rest of the week so that you can explain your project and interact with the conference attendees.
