All around the world, we are faced with major challenges to maintain aging assets. It is also a challenge to design new facilities using affordable materials. This task is no easy feat for any country and in particular, the Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC), which has been established as the world’s capital of reliable energy and critical source for sustainability of the world’s economy.
The Technical Committee comprises of known regional figures in corrosion & material and signifies the diversified and rapidly growing industrial sector in the GCC states. The technical program will include a number of workshops covering various aspects of corrosion addressing latest trends and tools related to corrosion.
Nonmetallics, Linings, and Protective Coatings
This symposium is seeking papers and presentations dealing with new developments and performance of nonmetallic applications and protective coatings. Submitted papers may also include issues, challenges and solutions related to nonmetallics, linings & protective coatings in the various industries. Areas of interest may cover new innovations, developments and studies on processing, design, material selection, testing, performance evaluation, new application selection, and implementation of a nonmetallic element or a protective coating.

Areas of interest include case studies and assessment of corrosion failures, corrosion control, mechanisms of corrosion, life assessment, development and application of new technologies in these industries.

Microbial Corrosion and Chemical Treatment
This symposium covers issued and challenges related to microbial corrosion, Molecular Microbiological Methods (MMM) and chemical treatment. Topics may cover diagnosis of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), detection, measurement, monitoring techniques, mechanisms, corrosion control strategies including biocides, inhibitors, bio-electrochemical techniques, case studies on MIC, corrosion failures; futuristic trends and new tools for detection and control.
Corrosion inhibition implied under this symposium covers development, performance and behavior of organic, inorganic, green inhibitor compounds and polymeric compounds intended for industrial corrosion preventive applications.

Risk Management of Assets
This symposium covers fundamental and applied work in the areas of development and application of techniques, procedures, novel approaches for integrity and risk management of assets. Topics may cover; development and application of risk-based methodologies for proactive monitoring of ageing assets’ integrity, application of codes & practices for integrity and risk management of structures, highlighting challenges / concerns, case studies and field application on integrity and risk management assessment, issues of compliance with statutory requirements, simulation and modeling work on prediction of integrity status. The papers should essentially address integrity and risk management as a fundamental tool to prevent or mitigate failures for any sector of industry.

This symposium covers challenges, technical studies and field cases associated with the cathodic protection systems application and design for protecting installations against corrosion of. Specific topics of interest for CP design/engineering, construction, monitoring and maintenance may include development and application of new materials, technologies and techniques, case studies and AC/DC interference detection and mitigation. CP of tanks, vessels and piping system, as well as CP for in-shore and off-shore structures will also be covered.

Metallurgy and Failure analysis
This symposium is designed as a forum for the exchange of information and knowledge regarding materials and welding process, with respect to selection, performance, optimization and failure analysis. Invited papers would include those describing materials and welds performance in corrosive environment, novel and advanced material development, investigations of failures resulting from design, manufacturing and services, development/optimization of welding and related processes for manufacturing as well as asset life extension/repair. Of special interest are failure analyses and welding and joining of different alloy steels and non-ferrous alloys.
